Chelsea bank waiting on bomb squad for suspicious package: NYPD
Police reported Wednesday afternoon that a bank robber had left a suspicious package at a Capital One bank in Chelsea about 2:45 p.m.
According to police sources, a man thought to be in his 50s walked into Capital One at 401 W. 23rd St. and passed a note demanding cash.
Before fleeing without any money, he left the suspicious package in the bank, which witnesses told police he “turned on.”
Police describe the package as a box with wires protruding from it.
Cops said the Emergency Services Unit was at the scene awaiting the Bomb Squad, which arrived shortly thereafter and determined the package was not an explosive device. An investigation into the attempted robbery is continuing.
