The Philadelphia Orchestra will make an unscheduled pop up appearance at Verizon Hall in the Kimmel Center tonight. The orchestra was originally scheduled to play Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night but that show was cancelled due to a stagehands strike.

The free show starts at 6:30 with pre-concert lobby activities kicking off at 5:30 and doors to Verizon Hall opening at 6 p.m. All seating is general admission. And, there’s no reason to break out the suit and tie. All the musicians will be dressed casually and the audience is invited to do the same, according to a news release.

The orchestra will play the music of Mozart and Tchaikovsky and the show will last 75 minutes, with no intermission.

A pre-concert “Conduct the PO” event will give concert-goers a chance to try their hand at conducting some orchestra musicians, according to the release. One person will be chosen to conduct on stage during the concert. The show will become interactive when audience members will get to choose one of the pieces.

After the show, Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will sign copies of the orchestra’s new Deutsche Grammophon CD of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring in Commonwealth Plaza.
