The NYPD is requesting the public’s assistance in finding Corey Brown, 21, wanted for the shooting of Nicoleia Taylor, 24.

Taylor was found shot in the chest in the courtyard of her apartment building in a New York City Housing Authority complex at 470 Dekalb Ave. in Clinton Hill, police said.

Police said Taylor was not the intended target — they believe Brown meant to shoot the person Taylor was walking with. Brown and Taylor’s companion had gotten into an argument that had nothing to do with Taylor, police said.

Police said they were told by a witness that Taylor’s companion and a group of men including Brown got into a fight at a baby shower on Saturday at 470 DeKalb Ave. over a “misunderstanding.”

Taylor’s companion and Taylor were walking in the NYCHA complex when they were confronted Tuesday by a group of men including Brown, police said. The witness said Taylor’s companion and Brown got into a verbal argument, and a witness heard the commotion and tried to intervene and defuse the situation by talking to Brown.

But Brown could not be calmed and started shooting at Taylor’s companion, police said. He shot Taylor in the chest then fled, running through the back door of 456 Dekalb Ave.

Police said the 911 call came in about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Taylor was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter,at 12:01 p.m.

Two .22-caliber shell casings were found behind 456 Dekalb Ave., and three more outside 470 Dekalb Ave.

Witnesses identified Brown as the shooter, police said.

Police said Brown has at least five prior arrests on record, including two juvenile arrests, almost all in the Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill areas. He also has two active restraining orders out against him, both by one man.

He served four days in prison this past June for reckless endangerment in the second degree, police said, and has an active warrant from 2010 for disorderly conduct in Albany.

Police believe they not only have evidence to arrest him for Taylor’s murder, but also for a forgery case from Sept. 18 in downtown Brooklyn.

In 2012, Brown was the victim of a non-fatal shooting in the same NYCHA complex where Taylor was shot. Brown was shot in the right buttock on June 29, 2012, police said.

Police described Brown as about 5’10″ tall and 180 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. All calls are confidential.
