Philadelphia to hold citywide fire drill Wednesday
When you hear sirens throughout Philadelphia on Wednesday evening, don’t be alarmed.
Fire alarms will at 7:30 p.m. be sounded across all neighborhoods to mark the Philadelphia Fire Department’s citywide fire drill. All Philadelphians are urged to participate by putting their home escape plans to the test.
“A home fire escape plan should include two exits from each area of your home, having a family meeting place outside the home and calling 911 from a cell phone or neighbor’s home,” Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said in a statement.
“The most important part of your home escape plan is practicing the plan with your family.”
Ayers, along with firefighters from Engine Company 73 and Ladder Company 29, will at 6 p.m. demonstrate one such drill at the home of the Hennigan family, located at 7190 Uber St. in West Oak Lane.
The officials will respond to a simulated fire at that location and oversee the evacuation of family members, who will exit using their home escape plan.
