The Massachusetts state trooper  involved in the collision that killed a Carver mother and daughter had a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit, according to police.

John J. Basler, 25, of Kingston will appear in Plymouth District Court tomorrow to face charges of drunken driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, improper storage of a firearm and carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor, the Boston Herald reports.

On Sept. 22, Basler crashed into Susan Macchi and her daughter Juliet as they returned from a Red Sox game.

Despite the charges Basler faces, the arresting officer says he didn’t show the typical signs of heavy drinking.

“Mr. Basler showed no signs of intoxication, and no alcoholic beverages were found in his vehicle,” Plymouth police officer Dennis Ward wrote, according to the Herald. “The contents of his trunk such as paper targets, empty cardboard cartridge boxes and sports drink bottles were ejected. … I located a loaded .45 magazine on the floor of the vehicle.”

The patch of road in Plymouth where the crash happened did not show signs of tires coming to a screeching halt, either.

“I observed no skid marks in the roadway but a point of impact and corresponding yaw marks were visible in the eastbound lane of travel,” Plymouth police officer Dennis Ward told the Herald.
