David Mitchell, 43, was sentenced to 30 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for raping a 73-year-old woman in Central Park last year. Mitchell pleaded guilty to rape in the first degree and sexually motivated robbery in the second degree on Oct. 1. He said he had approached the victim in Central Park while she was birdwatching and forcefully hit her head on the ground. After he raped her, he fled with her camera bag.

“This lengthy prison sentence ensures that David Mitchell, a sexual predator, will spend decades in prison and off our streets,” said District Attorney Vance in a statement. “Attacks on vulnerable victims in public places terrify all New Yorkers, who have the right to feel safe in our city’s parks.”

“David Mitchell is a predator who targets the elderly, taking advantage of his victims’ age and size,” Vance said earlier. “In this case, he raped and robbed a 73-year-old woman in broad daylight in Central Park, before leaving her bloodied and bruised on a mulch path.”

Mitchell has a history of sexually assaulting elderly victims. He confessed to raping and murdering an 83-year-old neighbor named Annie Parks when he was only 18, but he was acquitted of the crime, reports the Daily News.

His brother also told the Daily News that Mitchell is possessed by a demonic alter ego named Johnny that instructs him to kill.
