Bill de Blasio and Joe Lhota are set to face off again tonight in the second of three debates in the New York City mayoral election.

The latest poll has Democrat Bill de Blasio leading by 44 points, which has narrowed slightly from the previous poll that had him ahead by a margin of 50.

De Blasio took viewers by surprise at the first debate, launching a far more aggressive attack than voters had seen before.

Since then, however, his campaign has released two ads that are markedly warm in comparison to those released by the Lhota campaign.

The first de Blasio ad features his daughter Chiara, and the second is a montage of footage of New Yorkers around the city, and doesn’t show the candidate at all.

Lhota, by comparison, released an ad attacking de Blasio’s stance on crime, suggesting that if de Blasio were to take office, the city would return to the crime-ridden days of the ’70s and ’80s.

A second video put out by the Lhota campaign was a three-minute compilation of attacks on de Blasio by Democratic candidates from the primary election. The candidates — Bill Thompson, Christine Quinn and John Liu — have all since endorsed de Blasio.
