Abner Louima to campaign with Brooklyn DA hopeful Ken Thompson
The rancor in the Brooklyn District Attorney race has intensified since current D.A. Charles Hynes lost to candidate Ken Thompson in the Democratic primary, and opted to switch parties and continue to run on the Republican ticket.
The two have hurled accusations of corruption and hypocrisy at one another for weeks. Thompson has dredged up every misstep or allegation of wrong-doing by Hynes’ office, and Hynes has harped on the apparent involvement of Clarence Norman in Thompson’s campaign. Norman is a Democratic politician who was convicted of selling judgeships.
But Thompson has consistently touted his experience as a federal prosecutor, and announced on Friday that he will be campaigning this weekend with someone who can speak to his success in that role.
Abner Louima will be joining Thompson on the campaign trail this weekend. Louima was sodomized by police officers at a Brooklyn precinct house during the Giuliani administration. Thompson was one of a team of attorneys who prosecuted the NYPD officers who abused Louima.
The two will attend a National Action Network breakfast with the Reverend Al Sharpton in Harlem, and stop at three Brooklyn churches.
