Date set for murder trial of Jared Remy
Jared Remy, son of beloved Boston Red Sox broadcaster and former second baseman Jerry Remy, is set to go on trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Jennifer Martel on Oct. 7, 2014.
The date was set Tuesday morning at a pretrial hearing in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn, Mass., according to the Boston Herald. Remy, 35, did not attend the hearing, as he is being held in a Cambridge jail.
Remy is accused of murdering his longtime girlfriend at the couple’s Waltham home in August, just one day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting her. He pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and violating a restraining order.
Earlier this month, Remy told the Herald that he had no connection to Martel’s murder.
“No. That’s ridiculous,” Remy said when asked whether he killed Martel. “How dumb would I have to be? I loved her, I still love her.”
It was also revealed recently that another former girlfriend of Remy’s had requested a restraining order against him 12 years ago. In the application, the woman stated that “Jared began verbally assaulting me, calling me an [expletive] [expletive] and a [expletive] lover and a [expletive] and that he was going to kill me and my [expletive] boyfriend.”
