Brooklyn rabbi arrested in Beverly Hills on sex abuse charges
A Brooklyn rabbi wanted by the NYPD was arrested in Beverly Hills, Calif., Tuesday.
Menachem Tewel, 30, is accused of sexually assaulting a male teenage student repeatedly in 2005 and 2006.
The student, now 22, was 14 when the abuse first began, police said. He told police he didn’t report the abuse until this September because he wasn’t sure if he should.
An extradition hearing will take place in Beverly Hills sometime next week. If Tewel is indicted, he will be escorted back to Brooklyn by detectives from the NYPD’s Brooklyn Special Victims Squad.
