Episcopal Academy football player’s father accused of yelling racial slurs
The father of an Episcopal Academy football player was arrested last week after he allegedly confronted an opposing high school player with racial slurs.
Newtown Township police were called to the football field at Episcopal on Friday on a report of a disturbance there, the Delaware County Daily Times reports.
Witnesses reportedly told police Richard J. Butts, 51, of Springfield, shouted racial slurs at an 18-year-old Malvern Prep player, who is black.
Butts’ son and the Malvern player had exchanged verbal taunts during the game, according to the report.
Butts was charged with summary harassment, and was released on his own recognizance.
Episcopal is located in Newtown.
