PPA issues new parking rules for motorcycle and scooter riders
Starting on Jan. 6, 2014, motorcycle and scooter riders will get a reprieve from some of the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s rules and regulations.
On Friday the PPA announced that some parking restrictions will be lifted and relaxed to accommodate the growing number of Center City riders.
The new initiative, dubbed “New Parking Options,” includes parking permits, lock-up racks, and specified zones.
Parking permits include a $120.00 quarterly pass for specific parking zones, and a $5 daily pass at certain parking stations.
The lock-up racks, dubbed “Parking corrals,” are planned for installation in the spring. The addition of motorcycle and scooter parking zones are still in the works, and the PPA encourages riders to offer suggestions.
Special “Residential Parking Permits” would allow riders to park their vehicles on the sidewalk outside of their homes, but the ban on motorcycle parking on city sidewalks will continue, while scooters cannot park on commercial sidewalks.
