Reports of a horrific shooting spree rocked the Brooklyn music scene Monday morning.

According to NYPD reports, three members of the Iranian punk band The Yellow Dogs were shot in their East Williamsburg building shortly after midnight Monday. Police identified the shooter as a spurned former band member by the name of Aliakbar.

On the band’s Twitter page, they describe themselves as “post-punk/dance-punk band from Tehran/IRAN, living in Brooklyn at the moment.” Their music was reportedly “deemed illegal” in Iran, prompting their move to the U.S. in 2010.

They played a show just a few weeks ago on Oct. 23 at Brooklyn Bowl. One of their music videos can be seen above. A second one, filmed throughout New York City, is embedded at the end of this article.

Police said about a year ago, the other bandmates kicked Aliakbar out of the group. According to a preliminary investigation, it seems the dispute came about because they discovered he was selling off the band’s equipment.

Police believe that Aliakbar stormed through the rooms of 318 Maujer St. firing round after round at his former bandmates. Police said Sorough Farazmand, Arash Farazmand and Ali Eskandarian were all found dead in various rooms on the second and third floors. Aliakbar was found dead on the roof with an assault rifle.

The youngest band member, 22-year-old Sasan Sadeghpouroskou, was the only survivor of the shooting spree. He was shot twice in the right arm and elbow. He came to the U.S. just a year and a half ago.

Colleagues and friends have already taken to Twitter and Facebook to mourn the lost musicians. Some of their music can be heard on their Bandcamp page.
