A grandmother, her two grandchildren and five schoolkids were injured in a school bus collision in Delaware earlier today, state police said.

Sharon K. Hunter, 60, drove her Chrysler PT Cruiser into a school bus in Magnolia, Del., as the bus driver attempted a left turn. The bus dragged the Cruiser counter-clockwise for about 50 feet before coming to a stop.

Five of the 42 Nellie Stoke Elementary School students aboard, whose ages range from 6 to 11, were taken to Kent General Hospital with minor injuries. The remainder of the children were transferred to a separate bus at the scene and continued on to Nellie Stokes, which is located south of Camden.

Hunter, of Harrington, Del., and her two granddaughters, ages 2 and 7, were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Hunter had to be removed from the Chrysler by “mechanical means,” according to a news release.

The accident, which occurred about 8:10 a.m., happened at the intersection of Walnut Shade Road and Millchop Lane, according to state police.

The bus driver, James T. Bennett, was cited for failure to remain stopped at a stop sign, according to state police.
