Man in wheelchair shot in Springfield
A wheelchair-bound Springfield man was shot Sunday morning.
The man was in the city’s South End when he was hit by a bullet in the abdomen, WWLP reports. He was brought to Baystate Medical Center and is expected to survive.Mayor Domenic Sarno commented on the case, saying the victim is well known to authorities in the area.
“First of all I’m not happy about that; I got my update early this morning. Rest assured they were not churchgoing individuals and as always there’s more to it than what meets the eye in this situation, and the police will continue to investigate and hunt down the individual and bring him to swift justice,” said Sarno.
As for who shot the man, the Springfield Police told WWLP they’re looking for a light-skinned Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5-foot-6, last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a beige jacket and black sweatpants.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Detective Bureau at (413) 787-6355.
