Alleged ‘Puppy Doe’ abuser faces 12 counts

Radoslaw Czerkawski, the alleged abuser of “Puppy Doe,” was indicted on 12 counts of animal abuse Thursday.

“Today’s indictments move the existing case from the Quincy District Court to the Norfolk Superior Court,” said Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey, the Boston Herald reported. “Only a justice of the superior court can order longer terms to be served in a state prison.”

Czerkawski pleaded not guilty to the charges last month. He was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail.

In October, prosecutors said DNA evidence helped them charge Czerkawski with the heinous crime, which they say took place over a span of a few weeks. The dog was so tortured it had to be euthanized.

Mary Nee, president of the Animal Rescue League of Boston, previously said the case was one of the worst instances of dog abuse she had ever seen.

Czerkawski was working as a caretaker for an elderly woman in her Whitwell Street home in Quincy earlier this year when the abuse allegedly happened, authorities previously told Metro.

Czerkawski was also in trouble with police last month when authorities in New Bedford said he stole $6,000 from a church in a larceny scheme last year. He allegedly told the church he wanted to become a pastor, police said.
