Sterling store sells $122 million Powerball winning ticket

Someone in Sterling got very lucky.

A customer at Appletown Market in the small Worcester county town purchased a winning Powerball ticket worth $122 million. The only question now is, who’s the winner?

The ticket bearing the winning numbers (1-10-13-18-19, Powerball 27) scored the jackpot, which was announced on Thursday night. The other jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Nebraska.

The owner of Appletown Market, Chirag Patel, will also benefit from this jackpot win by receiving a $50,000 commission — the highest retailer commission paid by the Massachusetts Lottery — for selling the winning ticket, the Massachusetts State Lottery said in a statement.

But until the big winner comes forward, no one knows who will go home with either the full $61,450,000 jackpot in annual prize payments over 29 years or a one-time, lump sum payment of $34,182,985.55, before taxes.

The last time a Powerball jackpot was won in Massachusetts was in 2012, when Costco coworkers Rosa DeLeon of Arlington and Reginald LeBlanc of Lexington won a $50 million jackpot.
