Lower East Side spared from worst santa revelers

Despite Lower East Side residents’ successful efforts to redraw the official SantaCon route map, a splinter group of renegade revelers still made their merry way into the neighborhood to swig back some Christmas cheer, a community activist said.

“The good news is we didn’t have the main people throughout this area, but we still had a group that came through,” said Diem Boyd, founder of LES Dwellers. “We had scantily clad elves and what-have-you. These people weren’t part of the official SantaCon, which only shows this is something you can’t control.”

LES Dwellers distributed signs to a number of local bars that elected not to serve SantaCon participants. “Take your bodily fluids & public intoxication elsewhere (off the island preferably),” the signs read.

The number of Santa-clad bar-hoppers was in the hundreds rather than the thousands, Diem said.

“But still they were here till four in the morning. We woke up to Santa’s jacket run over by cars and frozen into ice,” he said.
