Mayor-elect Marty Walsh will officially become Mayor of Boston at Boston College.

Walsh’s team announced over the weekend plans for the inauguration, including a swearing-in ceremony to be held at Conte Forum. Walsh received a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 2009.

The inauguration will be Jan.6 at 10 a.m. The event will be ticketed because seats are limited, but tickets will be free. Chief Justice Roderick Ireland of the Supreme Judicial Court will administer the oath of office.

Later Monday night, Walsh will host an inaugural celebration at the Hynes Convention Center. Tickets for that will cost $35 and will be sold on Ticketmaster. The committee is asking attendees to bring a nonperishable food item or a donation to help low-income families.

While the inauguration will take place on a Monday, a weekend of events has been planed before the inauguration and will focus on neighborhood and community service.

“Following a successful campaign that stressed unity, transparency, and collaboration, Mayor-elect Marty Walsh has launched plans for an inaugural program that supports and promotes the theme of neighborhood and community service,” Walsh’s team said in a statement.

On the Friday before the inauguration, members of Walsh’s transition, campaign and inaugural committee will kick off days of community service. The public is encouraged to join and the committee has set up a website for details on the inauguration and volunteer opportunities. Volunteer projects will include painting school buildings, serving meals for the homeless and cleaning up parks. Walsh’s team said he will participate in a minimum of 10 volunteer events during the weekend.

On Saturday, Walsh will host a youth summit at Roxbury Community College where students in grades six through nine will share their “hopes and dreams for Boston’s future.”

On Sunday, Walsh is hosting a brunch for senior citizens at Northeastern University and later will attend an interfaith service hosted by the Rev. Jeffrey Brown at the Old South Church.

Walsh, 46, defeated City Councilor John Connolly during last month’s election.
