Beverly man with terminal cancer says goodbye to his dog, photo goes viral
A photograph that captures a tender moment between a Beverly man whose cancer is terminal and his dog has gone viral since a friend posted it online.
The photo of Mike Petrosino, 21, with his dog, Rusty, was taken at Massachusetts General Hospital, WCVB reported. It was posted online last week.
“In April 2006, two months shy of his 14th birthday my son, Mike, was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma,” his mother, Paula Petrosino, wrote on a fundraising page.
The page has raised nearly $19,000 to help with medical expenses.
Mike suffers from Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancer that targets bones and soft tissue. He was cancer-free and able to attend school for a few years after his diagnosis, however, in his senior year of high school, tests revealed a new cancer.
Although the cancer has been deemed terminal, his family is holding tight to faith.
“Rusty was very emotional when Mike said his finale goodbye…Every time I come home these past two days, he sits near Mike’s favorite couch and whines,” Mike’s brother, John Petrosino, told the news station.
