UPDATE-Boy and girl shot in Southwest Philly home while watching Eagles game

UPDATE: 5:15 p.m.

While watching the Eagles playoff game in their Southwest Philadelphia home Sunday night, a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were shot, police said.

Police said an 18-year-old man knocked on the front door of the home, on the 1500 block of South 58th Street, and then opened fire when the teenagers answered the door. Both were shot in the legs and are in stable condition at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

NBC 10 reported that the boy and girl were watching the game along with their older brother and friend. Police told the outlet that the parents were out of town and the older brother had been babysitting.

The man, adorned in a ski mask, knocked on the door shortly before 11 p.m., NBC reported. When the boy and girl answered the door, the men opened fire and then fled the scene.

NBC reported that a semi-automatic handgun was found in a bag few blocks from away from the scene ditched on the side of the road.

Police said the 18-year-old man is in custody, but no charges have been filed as of press time.

Police said the preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting was accidental, however, interviews are still being conducted and the investigation is ongoing.

Neither arrest updates, nor suspect descriptions have been released by police.
