Walsh names Felix Arroyo, Daniel Koh to top administration positions

On the weekend before he becomes mayor, Mayor-elect Marty Walsh announced appointments to some of the top positions in his administration including chief of staff and head of Health and Human Services.

Walsh, who will be sworn in as Boston’s next mayor on Monday, announced the appointments in an email.

On Sunday, Walsh said that his former mayoral rival City Councilor Felix Arroyo would be chief of Health and Human Services for Boston.

“Felix brings a wealth of knowledge and City of Boston experience to my administration,” Walsh said in a statement. “Felix knows how to bring people together and work collaboratively. He values and understands the importance of directly addressing the needs of Boston’s most vulnerable residents, and he will have a huge impact on our city in this role.”

Arroyo, an at-large city councilor from Jamaica Plain, ran for mayor instead of re-election to the council last year. After failing to earn enough votes in a preliminary election, Arroyo eventually threw his support behind Walsh. He was also named as a co-chair on Walsh’s transition committee.

Also on Sunday, Walsh appointed Hardin Coleman and Michael Loconto as members of the Boston School Committee. Coleman, dean of Boston University’s School of Education, was appointed to the committee in June to fill a seat left vacant. Loconto, is an attorney with a decade of experience in labor relations, according to Walsh’s announcement. Coleman and Loconto will serve four year terms and join the other members whose four-year terms expire at staggered points.

On Saturday, Walsh announced that his chief of staff will be Daniel Arrigg Koh. Koh is currently general manager of HuffPost Live, a live-streaming network by the Huffington Post. He previously served as chief of staff to the media company’s president Arianna Huffington. Koh also served as an advisor to Mayor Thomas Menino through the Harvard Business School Leadership Fellow program. Koh holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Harvard.

Walsh officially becomes mayor on Monday following a swearing-in ceremony at Boston College’s Conte Forum.
