MTA introduces Super Bowl MetroCard
Super Bowl fever is hitting the subway.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority introduced a series of commemorative Super Bowl XLVIII MetroCards throughout the subway system this week.
“There’s no better region to host the Super Bowl and no better way to celebrate and promote that fact than by saying it on a MetroCard,” MTA’s Senior Director of Corporate and Internal Communications Paul Fleuranges said in a statement.
Random distribution of the cards at 400 subway stations across the city began Monday and will end Feb. 3, the day after the game.
A million cards were printed in four different styles designed by the Super Bowl Host Committee.
In the days leading up to the big game, the city will host a Super Bowl Boulevard, closing off 14 blocks with vendors and activities celebrating the sport.
