A Fairway employee was arrested for allegedly stabbing his coworker to death during an argument near the upper Manhattan store Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officials said Jovanny Paulino, 25, was charged with murder and felony assault after getting into a fight with coworker Pedro Miguel Payero Valerio, 22, around 1:45 p.m. near the Manhattanville Fairway on 12th Avenue and 130th Street.

Police said Paulino stabbed Valerio multiple times and fled the scene.

Valerio was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and declared dead.

Paulino was later apprehended and arrested by police. Information for an attorney for him was not immediately available.

The Fairway remained open after the incident.

“Our deepest condolences go to the family of the deceased at this time. He was a valued member of the Fairway community and we join together to mourn his loss,” the store said in a statement.

“This incident, while tragic, is an isolated incident and did not occur on Fairway Market premises,” the statement continued. “Our store at 125th St. is unaffected and remains open to serve our customers. The safety and well being of Fairway customers and employees is always our foremost concern.”
