Councilman’s aide gets probation for stealing $50K
A Philadelphia City Councilman’s aide got three years probation today for stealing almost $50,000 in campaign funds, prosecutors have announced.Richard North, 24, previously pled guilty to charges that while working for City Councilman Bobby Henon (D-6th dist.) when he illegally used a credit card and cashed campaign checks worth $50,000, to fund his gambling habit.
North is not allowed to go to any casinos during his three years of probation, after which he must enroll drug and alcohol counseling.
North has paid almost $62,000 in restitution, prosecutors said.
Councilman Henon assisted with the investigation, D.A. Seth Williams said in a statement.
“North’s arrest and prosecution shows that the DA’s Office will investigate and prosecute anyone who commits a crime in Philadelphia, no matter where they work, live or who they know,” Williams said.
