Prosecution delivered a closing statement Tuesday in a Cambridge courtroom, where Dorchester Rep. Carlos Henriquez is facing assault and battery charges.

Attorney Clarence Brown gave his closing statement this afternoon, advising jurors not to be distracted during a “magic act” and to focus on the basic accusations of his accuser, Katherine Gonzalves, the 25-year-old alleged victim of a July 8, 2012 assault and battery.

The lawmaker’s defense attorney Stephanie Soriano-Mills told Judge Michele Hogan Tuesday morning that she expected to call three witnesses. Boston Police Capt. John Danilecki has been expecting to be called to the stand by the defense.

He works citywide under the night commander. Soriano-Mills had previously said she might call a Boston resident as well.

The defense has previously drawn out testimony from Gonzalves about a December 2012 incident where she visited the defendant’s home in Dorchester some months after the alleged assault and battery.

On Monday, Gonzalves said that after Henriquez had punched her three times, choked her, backhanded her, and took away her cellphone, he threw the phone back at her.

Both the prosecution and the defense has rested its case.
