Craigslist sellers robbed, stabbed in Worcester
Worcester police are warning people to use caution when buying or selling things on the popular classified advertisement website Craigslist after one person was stabbed and another was robbed while meeting a “buyer.”
Worcester police on Tuesday issued the warning after two people were attacked and robbed after meeting up with a person who said they would buy electronic items.
The incidents happened on Jan. 6. The victim was advertising an electronic item on Craigslist and agreed to meet the potential buyer at a location in Worcester that they agreed on. When they met, the buyer asked the man if they could move to a more secluded location to conduct the transaction.
The buyer then took out a knife and tried to rob the man, police said. The two then got into a fight, during which the man was stabbed several times. The buyer then took the item and fled.
Worcester police said a similar incident occurred earlier the same day during which a person selling an electronic item on Craigslist was robbed.
Police said the description in both incidents was similar and detectives are investigating.
“Police urge those making transactions through Craigslist to arrange meetings in public areas. Buyers and sellers should choose an area that is well lit and populated,” police said.
