With the coming snowstorm expected to cover Greater Boston in up to 10 inches of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, cities have already scheduled parking bans and snow emergencies.

The snow was expected to start falling in Boston around 3 p.m. and the heaviest was forecasted to fall overnight into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The South Shore and Cape Cod were expected to get the most snow, with more than a foot possible.

A Winter Storm Warning for much of Greater Boston goes into effect at 1 p.m. Tuesday and doesn’t expire until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

In anticipation of the significant snowfall, Somerville said in an alert that a snow emergency will go into effect at 3 p.m. Parking is allowed on the odd side of the street only, unless otherwise posted. Municipal parking lots and some school lots will be available for parking, the city said.

In Cambridge, a snow emergency and parking ban goes into effect at 8 p.m.

Medford said that a snow emergency goes into effect at 6 p.m., which means parking on only the odd side of many streets and no parking on main roadways.

Boston has not yet declared a snow emergency or parking ban and school officials said they are monitoring conditions for Wednesday.
