Delaware man robs 7-Eleven with BB gun, hides under house deck
A 21-year-old Newark, Del., man was arrested underneath a house deck shortly after he robbed a convenience store Tuesday night with a BB Gun, police said.
Hampton J. Jones walked into the 7-Eleven, on the 600 block of East Chestnut Hill Road, around 10 p.m. Tuesday night wearing a mask and brandishing the gun, Delaware State Police said.
Jones pointed the gun at a 41-year-old man standing near the cashier counter and the clerk, a 30-year-old woman. Jones briefly struggled with the man, and then demanded the clerk to empty the register. The clerk turned over the available cash and Jones fled the store.
Jones was spotted by a New Castle County Police officer walking a few blocks from the store. He dashed away, and then hid underneath the deck of a nearby home before he was arrested.
Jones was charged with two counts of robbery and one count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony.
He was released after posting a $22,200 bail.
