(UPDATE) Police: two dead in separate West Philly shootings early Sunday
UPDATE: The two victims have been identified as Pierce Johnson, 22, of Berlin, New Jersey, and Melissa Thomas, 29, of Philadelphia, NBC reports.
Police are reporting a violent night with two homicides occurring in two separate shootings, one involving an attempted robbery in which the robbers killed one victim after she gave up her purse.In West Philadelphia, two women were approached bar around 2:30 a.m. near 53rd and Market streets as they left the Tropic Heat bar by two armed men wearing hoodies who demanded money, CBS reported.
Police say that after Thomas gave up her purse, for an unknown reason she was shot and killed.
The second victim, 34, fled and was shot in the arm. She was brought to University of Pennsylvania Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
An hour later in Southwest Philadelphia, a 22-year-old male, Johnson, was shot multiple times and killed near the intersection of 57th Street and Hoffman Avenue.
A second male victim was shot in the head. He was brought to University of Pennsylvania Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
No arrests were made in the shooting and no motive was known.
