Norfolk cafeteria chef threatens to shoot up school over bad cookies: Police

A cook at a Norfolk middle school is in hot water after she allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the school, according to police.

Wendy Ferris of Cumberland, R.I., was arrested on Friday evening for uttering threats to commit a crime. The threat was regarding some cookies that a coworker made, which Ferris had deemed overcooked.

“’I’m thinking about going out and buying an AK-47 and shooting this school up,’” Assistant District Attorney Christopher Meade said Ferris told a co-worker, according to the Attleboro Sun Chronicle. ”‘Evidently I don’t know my [expletive] job or how to cook.’”

In court papers, police allege Ferris also said that ”she has a list” and that she was leaving the King Philip Middle School “to buy ammo.”

Ferris does not have a police record. According to court papers, she has a license to carry a firearm and owns a 9 mm handgun. Her husband also has a gun, and both are required to give up their firearms to police while the case is pending.

Ferris’ husband told the Sun Chronicle that the comments are puzzling to him.

“It’s beyond me where this comes from. It really does,” Phillip Ferris said, adding that his wife is a “good person.”

Judge Robert Harbour ordered Ferris to have no contact with the witnesses or alleged victims in the case and to stay away from the middle school unless she receives permission. She will return to court in March.
