With up to 10 inches of snow expected to blanket Greater Boston in white on Wednesday, cities and towns were implementing or scheduling parking bans and canceling school.

Boston was forecasted to see between eight and 10 inches of snowfall on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Communities not too far north and west of the city were expected to get more of the white stuff, between 10 and 14 inches. Cities and towns south of Boston were expected to see fewer flakes, but still at least eight inches.

The snow was forecasted to start falling after 2 a.m. Wednesday and be heaviest during the morning commute.

A parking ban and snow emergency goes into effect at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Somerville. Schools in Somerville will be closed Wednesday.

A snow emergency and parking ban goes into effect in Medford at 7 a.m., in Quincy a snow emergency goes into effect at midnight and a snow emergency will be in place in Brookline at 6 a.m.

As of Tuesday evening, Boston had not yet declared a snow emergency.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of the state beginning at midnight and lasting through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters had said that the snow from this storm would be heavy and wet, unlike the recent storms that have dropped fluffy, light snow on the area.
