Gardner boy dies when TV falls on him
A Gardner elementary school student is dead after a tragic accident on Thursday.
Colby O’Brien, 8, of Gardner died Thursday when a large television and the cart carrying it fell on him, the Worcester Telegram reported. O’Brien was attending the after school program at Elm Street Elementary School, according to Timothy Connolly, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
O’Brien was taken by ambulance to Henry Heywood Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
School Superintendent Carol Daring sent a message to all parents of Elm Street School students notifying them of a fatal accident involving a student. School is back in session on Friday and grief counselors are at the school to speak with students.
A makeshift memorial to Colby began accumulating on Thursday evening outside the school. Stuffed animals, toys and candles were placed on the grounds, while several visitors came by to pay their respects or say a prayer, WHDH reported.
There are 518 students at the Elm Street School, which serves grades 3 through 5, according to its website.
