Attorneys for accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will head to court on Wednesday in the hopes of delaying his trial date until at least September 2015.

Tsarnaev’s defense team claims they need time to review massive amounts of evidence collected by the government’s investigation into the bombing, Reuters reported. They are also considering a challenge to the recent decision by prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Tsarnaev if he is convicted on charges including use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Three friends of Tsarnaev are heading to trial in June to face charges of obstructing the investigation by removing a laptop and backpack containing fireworks casings from Dzhokhar’s dorm room at UMass Dartmouth.

Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan, who was killed during the manhunt for the bombs, are accused of planting the explosives on Boylston Street at last year’s Boston Marathon. The attack killed three people: 8-year-old Dorchester resident Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell, 29, and Lu Lingzi, a student from China. Hundreds more were injured.

He is being held in a prison west of Boston, and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
