All New York City public schools are open Thursday as snow continues to pummel the city with the latest winter storm.

Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina announced on Wednesday night that schools will open on Thursday, but all field trips will be canceled.

“Parents, as always, should exercise their own judgement with their children,” the department said in a statement.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for all five boroughs, as well as Hudson and Westchester counties, until 6 a.m. on Friday.

Snow began falling overnight and is expected to continue until late this morning, according to the National Weather Service. It will change to sleet and rain in the afternoon and evening before turning to all snow tonight.

A total of 8 to 12 inches of snowfall are expected between now and Friday, with temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Travel will be treacherous, weather officials said. Heavy, wet snow could also cause weak roof structures or tree branches to collapse, they added.

Hundreds of flights have been canceled at LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports. Travelers can check FlightAware.com or with their carriers for the latest updates.

Subways are running on a normal weekday schedule. Delays were being reported on the 6 line as of 7:30 a.m., according to the MTA’s website.

The Long Island Rail Road is operating on a normal schedule during the morning rush hour. Metro-North is running on a reduced schedule, with some trains being combined or making additional stops.

Alternate side parking is suspended through Saturday.

The Department of Sanitation said Wednesday that it has 135,000 tons of salt on hand for the city’s 6,300 miles of streets.
