Residents of East Boston are staying vigilant after a series of attacks on women Monday.

The first attack, which took place about 4:30 p.m. in the Trenton Street area, occurred when a female victim was taking the trash out, and an unknown male who smelled of alcohol tried to sexually assault her. After grabbing her from behind and pushing her to the ground, the victim was able to fight off her attacker, who fled on foot. According to Boston Police, the suspect is described as a clean-shaven Hispanic male in his 30s with a mole or mark on his left cheek, 5 feet 5 inches tall with a medium build, wearing a black hat, black North Face-type jacket, black pants and black boots.

Twenty minutes after the first attack, another female victim in the Trenton Street area was entering her apartment building when a man, also smelling of alcohol, approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground. She was also able to fight off the attacker, who is described as a male in his 40s with a mole on his left cheek, medium complexion, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build, wearing all black.

The third incident took place just after 8 p.m., when a man who smelled of alcohol showed a woman a knife after attacking her from behind and pushing her to the ground. When the victim hit the ground, the suspect fled on foot. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, medium complexion, no facial hair, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, wearing a black baseball hat and black coat.

Boston Police believe the attacks may be connected, and have increased patrols in the area. All residents of the community, especially women, are asked to be aware of their surroundings and exercise vigilance at all times.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit at (617) 343-4400.
