Man uses gun in Kensington rock salt robbery attempt: Police
Philadelphia police have charged a man with using a pellet gun in an attempt to rob another man of rock salt in Kensington last week.
The crime happened about 3 p.m. Thursday on the 2800 block of Diamond Street, according to police.
Daron Stinson, 21, of French Street, turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery and other offenses in connection with the attempted robbery, as well as a second incident involving a gun about a half-hour earlier on the 2200 block of Diamond Street.
Police allege Stinson, traveling with another individual in a pickup truck, approached the 52-year-old victim, who was using rock salt on a snow-covered sidewalk, and asked him how much he wanted for the ice-melting material. He then allegedly pulled out a handgun and ordered the victim to put the bag of rock salt into the back of the pickup.
The pickup truck sped off as the victim approached it.
Police recovered an Amarex X-B-G 4.5 mm pellet gun upon Stinson’s arrest.
