Falling ice from One World Trade Center partially closes West Side Highway
Parts of the West Side Highway were closed Wednesday morning after huge chucks of ice fell from One World Trade Center, officials said.
Traffic was snarled on both sides of the closure, which extended from the Battery Park Underpass to Murray Street, with southbound traffic stopping at Canal Street, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
Police started receiving reports of falling ice around 8:30 a.m.
The lanes were closed around 10 a.m., and parts of the highway were still shut down early Wednesday afternoon.
No one was injured because of the ice, police said.
