(UPDATE) Suspect identified in attempted abduction of 9-year-old girl
Police have identified the suspect in what they are calling an attempted kidnapping Thursday evening in Kensington as Jose Ferreira, 24, of the 200 block of West Albanus Street.Ferreira is accused of approaching the child around 5:50 p.m., telling her to “come here” and grabbing her arm before she broke away and fled seeking help.
The girl was heading home from a store at the time the incident occurred. She retreated into the store after allegedly fleeing from Ferreira.
Ferreira has been charged with attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, and related offenses.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted abduction after allegedly approaching a 9-year-old girl on Thursday.
The incident occurred on the 3700 block of North Fifth Street.
The man was held down by bystanders, who intervened after he allegedly tried to grab the arm of a passing girl. She ran to a nearby store asking for help.
The suspect was in the custody of the Special Victims Unit.
Witnesses said numerous people from the neighborhood assisted in chasing down and detaining the suspect.
