Police seek man tied to Manhattan bank robberies
A man dressed in all black and sunglasses robbed to Manhattan banks on Saturday within an hour of each other, police said.
The suspect made off with $2,885, first striking the Popular Community Bank bank in Manhattan’s Lower East Side at around 11:43 a.m.
“This is a bank robbery,” read a note that the suspect gave to a teller. “Give me $7,000.00 from your top draw. I have a gun.”
The man left the bank with money but without any incident before heading uptown to a Capital One Bank in Midtown East within about forty minutes. At around 12:22 p.m., the suspect again gave the same note to a teller, was given money and left without any injuries to customers or staff, police said.
Authorities describe the man as black, medium-build, approximately 5 feet 8 inches, at around 165 pounds.
Cops are asking for anyone with information in regards to this incident to call the department’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, or to submit tips online.
