A man allegedly bilked a 93-year-old war veteran of thousands of dollars by pretending to be district attorney Seth Williams and pressuring the victim to give him cash.

Prosecutors say Shelton Thomas, 47, arrested Friday,  scammed neighbor Raymond Campbell, 93, of $95,000 over three years, and possibly more.

Campbell hired Thomas to cut his grass in 2011, but Thomas allegedly soon told Campbell he was fined for dumping grass clippings in an unauthorized dumpster and demanded Campbell give him money to pay the fine. Later on Thomas allegedly began the pretense that he was D.A. Seth Williams, and used the names of city judges to further con Campbell for more money.

Campbell continued to give money to Thomas until last week, when D.A. Williams personally went to the victim’s home and told him it was a scam.

Thomas is charged with robbery, extortion and identity theft.

Campbell is a WWII vet who has lived in the same home for 60 years and lives off a pension from a government job he held for 40 years.

“Mr. Campbell fought for our country in World War II, and how is he repaid for that heroic service?  He is scammed out of nearly a hundred thousand dollars by this scumbag Shelton Thomas,” Williams said in a statement.
