A Bryan Mawr kid is one of five male finalists in People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) 2014 Cutest Vegan Kids contest. One boy and one girl will be crowned the winners when online voting ends Monday. Each winner will receive a prize pack and appear in an advertisement.

Dylan Simon, 7, has been diagnosed with autism and his parents noticed an improvement in his behavior when they removed all animal products from his diet, according to a PETA news release. Now, his parents said, he speaks a lot more and is more energetic.

“Dylan is very proud that he made the kind and healthy choice to go vegan,” said PETA director of youth outreach and campaigns Marta Holmberg. “Everyone who goes vegan saves nearly 100 animals every year from daily suffering and a terrifying death, and all our contestants are setting an example that should be followed by young and old alike.”

Dylan loves animals, said his parents, and he’s very close with his cat, Jackson and dog, Lovey. His favorite foods include gluten-free cashew cheese enchiladas and chips and salsa. Dylan’s parents even started a Twitter account to keep track of his jokes.

Vote count is a big part of how PETA Kids will select a winner but officials will also look at how the child shows enthusiasm for animal rights and of course, cuteness.
