Cop shot in Overbrook not far from his home, police say
A 46-year-old off-duty police officer is in stable condition after he was shot while heading home from work early Sunday, police said.
Brian Penn, a 24-year veteran of the force and member of the 16th District, was shot just after midnight as he exited his car on the 7300 block of Brentwood Road in Overbrook not far from his house, police said.
An unidentified man approached Penn, made an indecipherable comment, and then shot the officer once in the right shoulder. The bullet exited through Penn’s back.
Penn is currently in stable condition at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Penn is married with two childen – 9-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son.
The gunman was described as a 5-foot-8-inch black man dressed in a black jacket, black pants and black hat. He was last seen fleeing east in the alleyway of Brentwood, police said.
