An NYPD officer suffered multiple injuries Sunday after he was hit by an ATV driver who fled after being pulled over for reckless driving.

The officer and his partner were driving an unmarked police car along South Conduit Avenue in Brooklyn about 3:40 p.m. when they spotted the driver of a yellow, four-wheel Yamaha ATV weaving in and out of traffic and riding on the sidewalk, police said.

They activated their lights and sirens and ordered a stop of the ATV. As the cops walked toward the vehicle, the driver sped away, hitting one of them and dragging him for nearly 200 feet as he hung onto the front handlebar of the vehicle. The officer was eventually knocked to the ground, and the ATV ran over his leg, police said.

Emergency responders transported the injured officer to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition but with multiple cuts and scrapes, a broken vertebrae, a broken nose and bruises to his face. His partner was not injured.

Police initially said they had charged 23-year-old Christian Oliviere in connection with the incident, but it was later determined that he was not driving the ATV that struck the police officer.

Oliviere is charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless driving, but a police spokesman said Monday morning that he was driving a different ATV and that the driver who hit the police officer has not been apprehended.
