Drexel sorority girl dies from suspected meningitis
A sophomore at Drexel University was found dead Monday morning in her sorority house from a suspected meningitis infection, according to media reports.
6ABC Action News is reporting that Stephanie Ross, who majored in engineering, was found unresponsive in her bed inside her sorority house on Powelton Avenue. She was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, according to the news outlet.
Anyone who has been in contact with Ross was told to visit the student health center for antibiotics, Action News reported.
The official cause of death is expected to be determined this afternoon, Action News reported.
Both the sorority, Phi Mu, and the university released statements to the news outlet.
The sorority president called Ross was one of the organization’s brightest lights, while the university said it has contacted the woman’s parents.
