John Catsimatidis, former Republican mayoral candidate and billionaire Gristedes supermarket owner, will host his very own radio show beginning this week.

“The Cats Roundtable” will air Sunday mornings from 9 to 10 on AM 970 THE ANSWER, featuring interviews and listener call-ins, according to a release from the company. News of the show was first reported by Politicker.

Catsimatidis said in a statement that he was “incredibly excited” about the new gig.

“After the Mayor’s race, I was struck by how many New Yorkers from all walks of life were anxious to continue the conversation about how to improve our city. As a lifelong fan of local radio, I’m convinced that this is the best way to do that,” Catsimatidis said.

He added that people are “anxious” to hear more about campaign issues, such as crime, improving schools and a “new approach to transportation.”

“That’s what we’ll do each week,” he said.

The station’s general manager, Jerry Crowley, said in statement, “John is simply one-of-a-kind. I’ve come to consider him New York’s First Citizen.”

Catsimatidis became known for his quirky campaign style and unconventional proposals, such as arming police officers with electronic scanners to avoid physical contact. In one debate, he said he had a “love factor with the minorities.”

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Gov. George Pataki will be guests on his first show this Sunday.
