A Marblehead High School student was arrested for posting a bomb threat on a iPhone app earlier this month, it was recently revealed.

A bomb threat was received at Marblehead High School on March 4 via a smart phone app called “Yik-Yak.” The app allows people to post anonymous messages that can be read by others in the same geographic area, detected by GPS.

Marblehead Police detectives, along with school officials and the developers of the Yik-Yak app, investigated the incident and were able to identify a suspect. The person who posted the threat is a student at Marblehead High School, who fully confessed to the  threat’s creation.

The juvenile was arrested on one count of creating a Bomb Threat and one count of Disruption of a School Assembly, amounting to a Breach of the Peace.

Police say a second threat was received at the school on the same day, but is still under investigation.

Marblehead isn’t the only town that’s seen bomb threats as a result of the app. According to a popular internet security website, bomb threats were also posted on the Yik-Yak pages of schools in Georgia and California.

Marblehead is located on the North Shore of Massachusetts, just 15 miles outside the city of Boston.
