Philadelphia should expect between one and two inches of snow

The greens of St. Patrick’s Day will be hidden under the white of this prolonged winter season.

The National Weather Service is predicting between one and two inches of snow will descend upon the Philadelphia-area tonight and into Monday morning.

Meteorologist Valerie Meola said she expects temperatures to drop into the low-to-mid 20s tonight and hover in the low-to-mid-30s Monday.

By Tuesday though, she added, temperatures will rise into the high 40s and low 50s, so the snow “Should go away fairly quickly,” Meola said.

Is there any end in sight?

“Right now, it does look like we warm up fairly quickly,” Meola said. “And by next weekend we might be back up around 60.”

She said he isn’t entirely confident Spring is here to stay.

“We can’t say we’re 100 percent sure,” Meola said, “but as you do move later in March the average temperature does go up and it does get harder to keep the cold around longer, so we do have that going for us.”

The official first day of Spring is on Thursday.

“So, hopefully,” she said, “We’ll continue to see a warming trend.”
