2 injured when building collapses in Chinatown
A building that is currently under construction in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood collapsed Thursday morning.
The Boston Fire Department responded at 8:00am to 45 Stuart St. where a structure partially collapsed from floor 11 all the way to floor 5. The building under construction is set to be a 33-story hi-rise apartment building.
Boston EMS treated and transported two construction workers who were injured at the site to Tufts Medical Center. One is suffering from a serious head injury, while the other has only a minor injury of an unspecified kind.
The remaining construction workers were evacuated from the scene and moved to LaGrange St., where they performed a head count to ensure there were no other victims.
Incident Commander Deputy Chief Robert Calobrisi briefed the media at the scene, telling the group that “the biggest challenge now is making sure everyone is out of there safe.”
There is no word yet as to what caused the building to collapse.
