A woman who gained worldwide attention after she posted a picture to Facebook in which she held a sign asking for help finding her birth mother finally got to hug the woman she had wondered about since she was 12 years old.

Katheryn Deprill, 27, says she met the woman she believes is her mother at an attorney’s office on Monday, The Morning Call reported. The woman came forward to the attorney March 13 after learning of Deprill’s quest to find her.

In her March 2 Facebook post, the “Burger King Baby,” as Deprill quickly became known, held up a sign that read: “Looking for my birth mother. She gave birth to me September 15th 1986. She abandoned me in the Burger King bathroom only hours old, Allentown PA. Please help me find her by sharing my post. Maybe she will see this. Thank you.”

“Oh my God, I’m so excited!” Deprill told the paper Tuesday. “I have literally not wiped the smile off my face. I never in a million years thought I’d find her. … It’s definitely the best scenario possible. She’s very normal. She’s very sweet.”

Deprill’s Facebook post was shared more than 30,000 times, garnering media attention.

The attorney who helped arrange the meeting between Deprill and her mother told the paper that the woman, whom he did not identify, claimed she abandoned her baby after she became pregnant after being raped while traveling abroad as a 16-year-old girl.

Deprill says she learned she was abandoned as a newborn when asked in sixth grade to research her family history.
